Become a chocolate master at York Cocoa House

On Saturday 12th January, York Cocoa House is hosting a masterclass in tempering chocolate at their new chocolate manufactory.

The masterclass will explore the process and techniques involved in chocolate tempering, an essential component of mastering chocolate. No experience is necessary, it’s perfect for anyone with an interest in working with chocolate. You’ll be using chocolate made with cocoa from around the world.

After the workshop, you’ll be able to

  • Master the three different methods of tempering; slab, seed and hair dryer
  • Recognise and correct bloom and crystallisation errors
  • Manage your environment to create perfectly tempered chocolate
  • Make a variety of chocolate products; bars, shells and crystallised couverture to take home
  • Create a beautifully wrapped chocolate
  • Take recipes and knowledge home to practise

As well as all of this, each participant will take home approximately 300g of chocolate creations, with all of the recipes to make again at home.

This chocolate tempering workshop will take place between 9:30am – 12:30pm at the new Chocolate Manufactory and Academy at York Cocoa Works. This workshop will be repeated throughout the year, with the first masterclass taking place on 12th January.

This masterclass is part of the Chocolate Master Class Series; a 13 course programme that covers a range of techniques that will allow chocolate lovers to master their favourite food with an understanding of the most valuable basics.

Children, vegan and celiac participants are welcome to take part on the course. Any food intolerances or dietary requirements must be communicated at least 48 hours in advance.
