Jessie’s Remarkable Gin & Food Emporium

Cooked: 14.03.19

A Very Remarkable Review for Jessie’s Remarkable Gin & Food Emporium

There’s a new gin and food emporium on the block, incorporating up to 80 worldwide gins and a specialised smokehouse menu – all located on the first floor of Abel Heywood based in Northern Quarter.

Back in Time

The concept is inspired by the career of Jessie, daughter of 19th Century Manchester Mayor Abel Heywood, who the venue is named after. Jessie travelled the world and lived in New Zealand for some time, shipping home seed specimens and botanicals to Manchester Museum. With a detailed Victorian decor and interior botanical plants, it’s a truly unique venue and is a real standout in thriving Northern Quarter.

Smokehouse Specials

The menu reflects its Antipodean legacy with food prepared using spices and ingredients from across the globe. From ‘Pulled Smoked Brisket Hash Cake’ to ‘Gin and Tonic Battered Fish Goujons’, you have the opportunity to explore the huge range of fabulous food.

The menu is comprised of sharing platters, small plates and larger plates, with all their main dishes smoked in-house. Some of our favourites include ‘Deep Smoked Chipotle and Dark Chocolate Baked Vegetable Chilli’, ‘Roasted Smoked Paprika Cauliflower Florets’ and ‘Hot Smoked Pigs In Blankets’.

Let’s Talk About Gin

Chris Hopkins, Managing Director at Hydes, says the bar prides itself in their extensive variety of craft gins from every corner of the world. All gins are served in balloon glasses with complementing garnishes from every continent, as Chris explains “it’s all about enjoying outstanding experiences that our customers love!”.

Evenings and Events

Jessie’s Remarkable Gin and Food Emporium plans to hold all kind of events, all involving gin of course.

“We have turned our former dining room into a fantastic new gin and food emporium – incorporating up to 80 gins alongside gin cocktails, gin flights, gin globes and events such as meet the makers and masterclasses with guest bartenders,” says Abel Heywood deputy manager Liv Mutter.
